Harrison Dragonfest

The Fraser Valley Dragon Boat Club in partnership with Water's Edge Sport Performance Inc. are pleased to announce the sixth annual Harrison DragonFest, to take place on July 24th, 2010 in beautiful Harrison Hot Springs, BC.

With registration selling out in 2009 this event has quickly become one of the paramount one-day dragon boat events within the Pacific Northwest. This year we hope to capture that same spirit and bring you even more exciting races, community-sponsored attractions and festivities - all with the beautiful backdrop of stunning Harrison Lake. This spectacular venue is easily accessible to teams from all over the Pacific Northwest and only a ninety minute drive from downtown Vancouver. The central Fraser Valley location combined with the stunning surroundings makes this a welcome one-day getaway or a weekend retreat. We look forward to seeing everyone out on the water with us in July.

Challenge Cup

The Challenge Cup is a trophy awarded annually to the top team in the Fraser Valley Dragon Boat Club. All club teams compete against each other in a round robin tourniment. The top two teams then compete head to head to see who reigns supreme. The winners receive the cup and bragging rights for the year. As with all challenge cups, the trophy is returned to be challenged for the next year.

The 2009 Challenge Cup winners were the Pirates Dragon Boat Team coached by Ian Paul. The Pirates, posting the fastest time of the day, pulled out all the stops to fiend off the Thunderstrokers in the final race for a triumphant victory. Good job one and all.

Past winners include:

  • The Crusaders - 2008
  • The Thunderstrokers - 2007

Community Challenge

This years Community Challenge will be held June 26th, 2010 on the Main Beach in Harrison Hot Springs.

The Fraser Valley Dragon Boat Club was looking for a way to unit the local community with the sport of Dragon Boating. The Community Challenge was born. The FVDBC go out into the community each year looking for local businesses to compete against each other in the sport of Dragon Boating. Each business is given a coach and steers-person. The coach assembles the eager employees (and their families) into teams. They are given basic stroke techniques, safety, how to communicate with their team and after a few practices are given a chance to compete against the other teams in the Challenge Cup Regatta. The winner gets the Challenge Cup and bragging rights for the year. As this is a Challenge Cup, it is surrendered at the end of each year only to be raced for again.

Past winners include:

  • Buxton Bucanneers - 2009
  • Chilliwack Co-op - 2008
  • Valley Laser Eye Centre -2007
  • Suprema - 2006
  • Save-On-Foods - 2005

This years Community Challenge will take place June 26th 2010 on Harrison Lake. All teams will be given practice time before the regatta date to coordinate their team, get instruction from their coach and build up a little sweat. This is a great one day event. The length of the course has been reduced to 200 meters from the traditional 500 meters in the past. Each team will be running up to 4 races (with a few fun things thrown in the mix).

As we like to keep this event small and intimate we will be capping the number of teams this year at 6. As there is limited entry please make sure you contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . We are hoping for another great turnout and some fun spirited races.

If this sounds like something your company would be interested in please let us know. We are currently recruiting businesses and as there is limited seating, the sooner you get on board the better.

Thank You
