Learn to Paddle
The Fraser Valley Dragon Boat Club is hard at work on our annual Recruitment Drive. The Recruitment Drive is used to spread the word about Dragon Boating and help find new paddlers (no experience necessary) for the coming season. This year the recruitment drive is concentrating on finding new paddlers to compliment our existing teams. We currently have 3 mixed teams, two Ladies Only team and our Junior Program AND they are all looking for new paddlers to teach and bring into their teams.
The Recruitment Drive will consist of FREE open paddles at Harrison Hot Springs on April 1st and 8th at 11:00am. The open paddle will typically last around an hour with breaks between paddling to allow you to rest and get to know some of the other paddlers.
What to Expect
So, what should you look forward to when you come out to paddle? All participants will need to fill out some paper work (a waiver) before getting into one of our three dragon boats, so please show up a few minutes early. During these sessions you will sit in with other new paddlers and some season veterans. Our coaches will introduce you to the team members, give you some basic instructions to get you familiar with our sport, place you in a boat next to an experienced paddler and take you out on the water during a typical practice.
At the end of the practice we encourage you to talk with the coaches and some of our members about the sport. They will be glad to talk with you and answer any questions you may have.
Please remember that Dragon Boating is a water sport and you may get wet. Please dress according to the weather. We recommend layers if it is a little on the cool side. Neoprene gloves are also recommended. The Fraser Valley Dragon Boat Club will supply PDF's and paddles.
