The "Spirit of Fraser Valley" Junior Dragon Boat Team is a proud member of the Fraser Valley Dragon Boat Club and provides an opportunity for all youth paddlers ages 13 to 18 to join in the rich history of dragon boating in a fun and friendly atmosphere.
Come join the many youths that have already and enjoy the camaraderie, physical activity, outdoor adventures and cultural experiences, while developing new skills and new friendships.
The “Spirit” and FVDBC are proud to work with great clubs and programs like the Kiwanis Club of Sardis and ParticipACTION, who are dedicated to bringing out the best in all kids. With their continued support, along with donations from local businesses, we continue the development of healthy youths in our community.
The Team competes in a number of regattas every year, including the Rio Tinto Alcan Dragon Boat Festival and our own Harrison DragonBoat Regatta. In years past we have also attended the DragonZone Junior Regatta in False Creek, the BC High School Dragon Boat Regatta held at Burnaby Lake and the annual Community Challenge that also takes place in Harrison Hot Springs.
The team is hard at work already and continues to recruit all year long. There is a place for you! We are looking teens between the ages of 13 and 18 who are attending school to join one of the fastest growing water sports in the world. You can enjoy the excitement and adrenaline that is dragon boat racing. Anyone can try it and everyone will succeed. All you need is the heart and will to learn.
Benefits of dragon boating include fun and excitement, great exercise, an opportunity to make new friends and revel in the thrill of competition. It all starts with a commitment to get in the boat. Once you're there, leave the rest up to us. We will teach you, train you, excite you, and commit to you. All equipment is provided. This includes coaching, dragon boat paddle, PDF and boat. The youth dragon boat season runs from mid March through to the end of June. Costs (which include registration fees for regattas, insurance and equipment usage) are FREE. That's right, it is all FREE.
Thanks to The Fraternal Order of Eagles for their support of Spirit of the Fraser Valley!
