The Chilliwack Chapter of Optimist International have come on board to sponsor the FVDBC youth team. FVDBC Executive members Ian Paul and Scott Farrell (with the support of fellow members Kathy and Manfred Preuss), gave a short presentation to the Optimist Club. This presentation included the history of dragon boating both as a sport and as a club activity in the Fraser Valley.

The two outlined the importance sport plays in the development of young minds and bodies. They showcased the positive change observed in the young men and women who have joined the team and how this change has helped the team to win their first medal at a dragon boat regatta. The presentation was followed up by a question and answer session where Scott fielded questions from the members of the Optimist Club.

The Spirit of Fraser Valley Youth Dragon Boat Team coached by Ian Paul are over the top with excitement after learning of the sponsorship. They plan to use the sponsorship funds to purchase team jerseys, life jackets and paddles.
