Harrison Dragonfest is Here

Greetings from Harrison Hot Springs

Everyone is hard at work getting the beach area ready for the 1500 paddlers expected this Saturday. With almost 60 teams registered, the 6th annual Harrison Dragonfest will feature our largest crowd ever. Each team is given 4 races (1x200 meters and 3x500 meters) with the top three teams from each medal division being sent home with bling.

The great people at Nestle Water have again stepped up and supplied our paddlers with free bottled water. With the weather expecting to be in the high 20's (27 degrees), keeping hydrated should be first on everyone's list. The large LCD Screen will once again grace our beaches. A crew from Columbia Academy will be showcasing the races high atop a 60 foot boom truck. We should get some great live views of the races from a vast array of angles. We will also have a second camera walking around the regatta capturing the really good stuff (be on your best behaviour lest you end up on YouTube). We will also have other cameras taking photos during the event for our website. Darryl the DJ is with us again this year. He will be spinning tunes and calling teams to marshall and just about everything in between. St Johns Ambulance and the Kent Harrison Search and Rescue will be on site keeping us safe and out of harms way. Tourism Harrison will have a booth in the paddlers village with all the information you will ever need about the beautiful place our Dragon Boat Club calls home. Muddy Waters has stepped up this year and has supplied coupons for a free cookie with each beverage purchase (expect those in your race package). As well as dragon boat races, you may be surprised at what you do see on the water this year. Keep your eyes open around the 1:00 hour for something abit special. It's a first at this Regatta.

The Race Grid and Race Package are available and can be downloaded from our website by clicking on the appropriate link. The Paddlers Village should be open for Noon on Friday and participants can start setting tents up at this time. Space is limited as the high water has greatly reduced the width of the village. Parking will be the same as in previous years. There will be volunteers directing parking in the morning hours of race day. They will allow participants to load and unload vehicles at the race site but will not allow parking along the beach area. There is a parking area as you come into the Village of Harrison and we suggest you park there. It is a short 2 block walk to the beach.

This year we have another great group of volunteers. Angela Farrell (our volunteer co-ordinator) has been hard at work the last few weeks making sure we have an ample supply of cheerful friendly people willing to help out and make our event a great success. Please be kind to these people as they are giving of their time to make sure each and every paddler has fun and enjoys the day.

So from all the members of the Fraser Valley Dragon Boat Club and the nice people at Waters Edge, welcome to Harrison Dragonfest 2010. Enjoy your stay.
