Fraser Valley Dragon Boat Club

dragon1The Fraser Valley Dragon Boat Club is a Non-profit Society, established in 2002. The Society is committed to assisting and overseeing activities which will encourage, promote and develop teams within the Fraser Valley for the sole purpose of Dragon Boating.

Our efforts are to help all individuals (young and older) who have the desire to gain personal achievement, sportsmanship and good health through active participation in the sport of Dragon Boating.

Our season runs from March to October at the beautiful Harrison Lake. Please feel free to come out and join us as we work hard, paddle fast and have fun.

Thank You from Harrison Dragonfest

On behalf of the all the members of the Fraser Valley Dragon Boat Club and the great crew at Waters Edge I would like to thank all our guests for attending the 2010 Harrison Dragonfest. We had 1500 paddlers take over the beaches of beautiful Harrison Hot Spring for this great one day event. Great weather with temperatures hitting the high 20's made for some sweet races (race results at end of article). Congratulations to Dragon Hearts Ultimate for taking top honours in the Mixed Final A Division and the Dragon Ladies for taking top honours in the Ladies Final A Division.

In addition to the great racing, this year saw the first ever Dragon Boat wedding. Two local paddlers decided to tie the knot during our regatta. The beautiful bride was paddled across the race course and was dropped off at the loading docks. As she was walking up the dock with her family the Harrison Highland Pipe Band began playing. A paddle arch was then created as she walked down the beach to her ceremony. Congratulations Larry and Sharon, many many happy years.

Adding to the day was an impromptu performance from a Chilliwack Belly Dancing Troupe. They entertained the huge crowd with some incredible dancing. Thanks ladies for coming out and entertaining our guests.

We would also like to thank all our volunteers for coming out and giving of their time. We do hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as we did. We also need to thank all the sponsors that donated everything from tents to food. The list is numerous: Hub Insurance, Loris Catering, Ians Pub, Prospera Credit Union, United Rentals, Nestle Water, Mikes Computer Shop, Black Press, Chilliwack Progress, Tourism Harrison, Starbucks, Royal Lepage, Bread Basket Bakery, Hotstedes, Kent Harrison Search and Rescue, Village of Harrison, City of Chilliwack, St John Ambulance and many more. Thank You all.

We hope to see you all back next year. Paddle safe.

Letter From The President

On behalf of all the members that make up the Fraser Valley Dragon Boat Club (FVDBC), I would like to welcome you to our new website. This website will enable us to keep our members and the general public informed about current and upcoming events, to answer questions with regards to dragon boating and to promote this wonderful sport we all love.

The goal of the FVDBC and its executive is to grow the sport of Dragon Boating in the local community and surrounding areas. We intend to carry on the work of past executives by moving forward with the purchase of new boats, expanding our team base by forming and developing junior, senior and "ladies only" teams and designing and constructing a new clubhouse. We will also continue with our Community Challenge Cup in June, our Dragon Boat Regatta in July and our Club Challenge in September. It will be another very busy year.

So, if you or any of your friends are interested in Dragon Boating, please see the Contact Us section and drop us a line. If you can breathe you can dragon boat. Try it today. The sooner you try it, the faster you will be hooked.

Thank You
Scott Farrell
FVDBC President
